aynone found that a clubs/gigs you can smell what everyones had for dinner now that there's no smoke to hide the smell?
i reckon smokers we're providing a fair service
How are you so stupid? Have the cigarettes damaged your brain so much that you actually think you're doing non-smokers good by smoking beside them, forcing them to inhale toxic fumes? If thats what you are trying to say then you are the most mentally diminished person I have ever heard of! Think of the logic. You're saying that it is more important to rid a bar of the smell of food (which btw i've never heard anyone but you complain of) than of poisonous, carcinogenic smoke.
You had the choice of whether or not to smoke and I dont know why you chose it. At the time, depending on your age and when you started smoking, you may not have known the health risks. Non-smokers, however, don't get the choice of whether or not to smoke, it is thrust upon them by the fumes released from smokers' dirty habits. It is not an excuse that you are addicted to it, I understand that it makes it incredibly difficult to stop but it gives you no right to kill other people, and make no mistake, that is what you are doing.
Maybe I'm not giving you your due though. Maybe the smoking ban has come in and made you cut down on the amount you have a day because you can't physically fit any more in during the time when you're not in a public place. Maybe your taste buds are gradually recovering from the deposit of shit that you laid down on your tongue and hence your sense of smell is returning. Maybe this is causing an overwhelming stimulus and your brain cant stand it. If so, then go ahead and kill yourself, just do it in a manner that doesn't kill everyone around you too!
I apologise if I have offended anyone with this post, I just feel too strongly about this to let an arrogant ***** get away with a comment like that. I believe that not only should the smoking ban cover indoor public places but also outdoors and people's homes too. It should be an outright ban, not one with loopholes and regulations. Smoking kills, fact. It is one of the most lethal things you can do to yourself (and not in the kickass 80s dude sense of the word) and people should not be allowed to do it. If it were known the effects of it when it was first invented it would have never been legal. It should be classified as a type A drug and people should just deal with it. I know I have went on this rant in this thread a few months ago but I felt it needed to be said again.

I have never smoked and will never smoke in my life (hopefully), as it is a waist of money and it's bad for your health.
I am with the smoking ban 100%

lets take it as a positive thing.. im a smoker myself.. but if the government prohibited smoking in my country, i would willingly support it ... because it helps a lott.... when we are afraid of being summoned , we will abide the law.. and futhermore, theres nothing to lose..

I wish there was a smoking ban here in Spain - The government have made a half-hearted attempt to ban smoking, but in most bars and restaurants, smoking is unfortunately still allowed.

surprisingly in uk majority vote 4 yes. in my country, u gonna have a serious problem if u gonna ban cigarettes. but i vote for yes anyway, cause im not smokin. AND im not living in uk . hahaha!

should be allowed in your own home, and nowhere else if you ask me, dirty habbit
I have to say it is a good idea, but now when i go into a club/gig it absoloutley wreaks (sp?) of BO rather than smoke - and in that sense i think it has made it worse (significant decrease in people at clubs compared to last year around my area) plus you get more people stood outside the clubs having a fag - which ends up causing violence on many occasions

Smoking is already banned in your country, what I meant is smoking in public. Yet we see so many people still smoking in public places (restaurants, transit stations, etc). They should be fined.

I think its definately a good idea, I have 2 small children and the amount of ppl who would light up next to us in a restaurant was shocking. Thank god they banned it. :)

Its been in Ireland for a few years now and most people (even those who opposed it at first) are happy with it.
I was delighted when it was introduced but as a non-smoker Im not so happy with it these days, as I've now realised that in a nightclub 90% of the women are in the smoking area so I always leave smelling of smoke after a night out anyway.
I understand the need for a ban but the total all out ban is wrong, I believe that certain premises should be able to apply for a licence to allow smoking in their establishments with these venues kept to a restricted few by local government. At the end of the day I believe in choice and the government have taken that choice away. I also believe the nations health is far more at risk from car engine fumes, our towns and citys are far more poisonous then any smoke filled bar.

In spain it's forbbiden, but there are lots of places only for smokers. It's not easy to find a restaurant only for people who doesn't smoke.

yup i agree wit u since im also from the same country...but the word public is 2 wide there...specifically,smoking is prohibited in any government institutions, education facilities, health n air conditioned building (some) but still, people can smoke anywhere in public except for those areas...
just to make sure,my friend said tat one of the sources where the government get money for the petrol subsidy is from the cigarette taxes...tats y our petrol is cheaper compared to other coutry...only MYR1.90 per L ... so Malaysian smokers, smoke more so we can get cheaper petrol ... lol hehe :18: XD
It's also banned here in Alberta, Canada. They are talking about banning smoking in vehicles that have children in them. Can't see how they're going to police that though!
I say let people do whatever they want as long as it doesn't effect (damage) me. And, smoking = cancer & 2nd hand smoke = cancer. So, I say this law is fine. Smokers should be allowed to smoke, but not around other people who don't want to be exposed to that cancer smoke. It's even worse when parents smoke infront of there babies and give them asthma and maybe even cancer.

its a good idea...
but its not pleasent when people smoke in the street because you can still smell it.
Well it's good.Sometimes you feel uncomfortable with the cigarette's smoke. There will be no passive smokers.
when I been at there I have seen a lots a people smoking at there
I wonder why
I say it's good... while I think everyone has a right to do what they like, a smoking ban will discourage more people than you might think from smoking so it'll be best in the long run. I smoke the occasional thing (not cigerettes though, they're just nasty) but passive smoking is just annoying... I don't want to have to "smoke" just becuase the person in front of me is.

Australia recently banned smoking inside pubs. Now after a night out I don't feel as sick the next day. It has to be a good thing

my favourite reason for the smoking ban was when I couldn't get into a pub to watch a big football game due to it being full, waited till have half-time, the smokers came out and I got in.
I think a smoking ban is a good idea though, it just keeps the country more *clean*

smoking ban is good stuff, much nicer to be inside without smoke. people smoking right outside doors and the smoke all blows in should be banned too.
They just did a state wide ban in ill n all public places so being a ex smoker i like it but this may be the start of a slippery slope

Smoking is bad! Should be banned from the start. Somehow, the government could not do it because it's a good source of income for them (gov) through tax.

I smoke, but I still think it's a good idea. It's helped me cut down, and I work in a bar so I don't go home now stinking like an ashtray.
if cigs didn't make everyone money they would be baned in a second.

I think the ban is GREAT (even tho I smoke when I have had a beer)
But please...DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT STINKY TOILET SMELL in pubs now.

screw smoking bans. Bars should have a choice, you can either allow smoking or not. If you don't like smoke then go to a bar that doesn't allow smoking. It shouldn't be a general mandate, unless you're going to make tobacco illegal.

We had that law applied to my country last year... and I think it's great... several smokers were really ****ed off at the beginning... but whatever... They never cared for us non-smokers... so I won't care about them either... after all it's better for everyone health.. ;)
I don't mind smoking outside but I don't think it's fair to put huge bans on things that aren't even against the law to start with. Why don't they put bans on alcohol which seems to do allot more damage. Here in the USA we can't smoke in allot of places. I still think they should be talking more about the drink because I see more drunk drivers then smokers anyway!
the smoking ban is great but it means that public areas like city centres are becoming clogged with smokers!
*wonders if that makes you a chav*
oops did I say that out loud?
They took a good idea too far. Smoking should be allowed in pubs, end of story. Bars without smoke, just feel wrong.

I don't care for smoking but I think that it should be up to the owners of the private establishment and not the government whether to allow smoking inside or not.

smoking ban is great!!! I'm a non-smoker and it really used to irritate me when pple were smoking on a bus stop for instance. on the other hand, dont necessarily agree with smoking ban in pubs/clubs -> the smoke was simply part of it!

The smoking ban is brilliant. I used to get sick of coming back from various places stinking of cigarette smoke, its a real nice change!!! I get the argument about the 'rights' of people who smoke not being able to smoke where they like, but still!!

Well, i think its a good idea that less non smokers have to be around smokers in places of entertainment, but this isn't the solution to stop smokers from actually smoking.
They will smoke no matter what rules are passed, whether legally or illegally and by making this rule it just means that the harmful effects of smoking are being kept to 1 person..being the smoker, as much as they can.

Smoking is such a disgusting habit and whilst I don't have a problem with people smoking at home I think banning smoking in public places is a great idea
Its all about personal choice....the problems start when smokers and their smoke intrude on others without any consideration. If something if did could kill someone, i'd stop....

Ugh, I hate smoking. Not only does it affect yours and everybody elses health around you, but it causes littering. There's nothing worse than walking behind someone smoking!
Yep! Im in favour! I hate my clothes smelling and it doesnt make me need to go outside in a pub anymore because of my asthma :P
It seems to be working out OK. I feel sorry for smokers who'd like to go to a pub and smoke. I think it's a shame they can't have a room somewhere but I hate smoke so I'm happy for myself.
oh well.. im a smoke myself and sadly.. i think i actually encourage the ban but only in certain places. I guess i still prefer to have my meals in a non smoking area rathert than smoking area.

well....i do smoke too...but here in my country...there are certain places you cannot smoke too....i.e in a restaurant, public transportation etc...etc..
smoking ban in ireland sucks lets just say i dont go out as much as i used 2:Angry:
smoking ban in turkey is great!
it is awesome to get rid of that terrible smell
and my clothes are also happy not to smell like smoke
the introduction of the smoking ban in Ireland has been excellent. its great being out and not having to put up with smoke in your face and even better the next morning when your clothes don't stink of smoke.
