I will pretty much read anything thats on the best sellers list. My fave is usually fantasy and horror.
I just finished reading "The Shakespeare Secret" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shakespeare-Secret-J-L-Carrell/dp/0751540358/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203876928&sr=8-1) by JL Carrell and was pretty impressed with it. I've never really been a huge fa of shakespeare but this book certainly taught me a lot about him and the thoughts behind his work. I found myself googling certain stuff to find out if it was really true. The ending was a bit of a disappointment to me they tried to be a bit too clever but otherwise i would definitely recommend it.
I've started straight on with another book that my tutor lent to me called "The End of Mr. Y" (http://www.harcourtbooks.com/TheEndOfMrY/landing.asp) by Scarlett Thomas and it is certainly one of the weirdest looking books i've ever seen. The book looks as if someone has coloured the 3 exposed sides of the pages with black marker pen and its a long and thin book compared to most. I'm only 100 pages in but i'm hooked already it's reasonably fast paced and incredibly detailed. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has read it because it isn't even available on amazon at the moment.

Yeah! I have read "His Dark Materials" trilogy -- The first book is Northern Lights, but better known as "the golden compass".
The 3 books are superb! I love the books so much!
all of the prey books are great.
last read sudden prey. find them for a .25 or 1.00 at flee markets.
i started to read/hear all the novelbooks/audiobooks of john katzenbach.
he write large books and goes deep in the characters.
i'm in my jane austen phase; i'm trying to get all her books read, and am pretty close. i'd recommend reading pride & prejudice of course!, emma (which clueless is based on), persuasion, mansfield park, and sense and sensibility. northanger abbey is okay too.
i am legend is a great book, much better than the movie
The Best book of all time has to be the Bhagavat-gita. It was written far before any other book and can answer all your questions about life.
Hmm i'm looking for a new author, but i'm having trouble finding one thats on the same level as Michael Chrichton
I started reding Tolkien's Lord of the rings. It's great!
I recently read The Pelican Brief by John Grisham and The Third Twin by Ken Folliet.
My favorite book of all, though, is The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. :)
I just finished rereading Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. Really thoughtful novel.

I just finished Jarhead. Started on Northern Lights although I'.m not liking it too much.
Before Jarhead I read The Third Reich, can't remember the author but it gave a great incite into the actions of the Nazi's and Hitler during WW2 and 1.

i recently read "der Prozess" by franz kafka. that book was quite disturbing from time to time..
the last book I've read was called He's Just Not That Into You. It's a "no-excuse guide to learning to about guys" or something... Anyway, it was really enlightening and insightful. I really liked it.
I am a big sci-fi fan, i love books from Asimov, his stories are addictive. But lately i am reading only textbooks.
I just read the newspaper and sometimes a tom clancy's book...
I enjoyed Mirrors and Smoke by Neil Gaiman, a collection of his short stories and poetry which is mostly fantasy, some sci fi and some really creepy stuff I would call horror... But probably even more I loved Fast Forward 1: Future Fiction From the Cutting Edge, a scifi anthology edited by Lou Anders. Some of the best science fiction I have ever read (and I've read a fair bit). I know a lot of people aren't big on short stories, but there was nothing wrong with form for these stories, except some I wished would continue. It was great for finding good scifi authors too, I highly recommend it.

Best book i've ever read was Catch-22, but i've read most the discworld books too and they're amazing
Best book i've ever read was Catch-22, but i've read most the discworld books too and they're amazing
Catch-22 is an all time favourite for me too. Hilarious. Terry Pratchett is pretty good with the discworld books, athough I hated The Hogfather.
Everybody should read Heart of darkness!
The movie Apocalypse now is based on it, it's very different (location and time) though.
Anyway it is a must.
I've read Trudi Canavan "Black Magician Trilogy" and "The Age of Five Trilogy" several times. Very nice books.
Harry Potter and the Disc-World books are also nice
Just finished the books Dexter is based off of. They're pretty good, but very short compared to the show, also only the first season is based on the first book. But they also tend to be more fantasy/fictional than the show as well, which kinda threw me when i started reading them. Good overall tho.
Other than that, I've read neil gaimen's ananasi boys, azimove's early years, and the early ayn rand. Interesting to see how famous authors started out.

Starts with On A pale Horse, It's about Thanatos (the Grim Reaper).
All of the "gods" are just humans with that job.

1. "The Spanish Game" by Charles Cumming

Bloggs 19 - The Story of the Essex Boys Range rover killings.
I watched the film "Rise of the Foot Soldier" and Bloggs (aka Darren Nchols) was the grass that gave away the killers.
Great film and very good read, even if their world is a bit darker than my own

I love to read, mainly sci/fi fantasy but I haven't had much time to do that since I got into college. I think the last thing I read that wasn't for school was William Gibson's Neuromancer.

I'm not sure how old everyone is, but the most engrossing book I've read recently is "Geek Love" by Katherine Dunn. It's about a family of "carnies" or carnival attractions (i.e., "freaks"), and it's disturbing and bizzare, but also a rather moving story about family dynamics at the same time. I absolutely couldn't put it down.

I can totally recommend The Dark Tower Series from Stephen King!
I'm currently reading the last book (7'th) and it's very hard to stop reading.

For people who like Harry Porter, I recommend you try "The Moon of Gomrath" and "The Weirdstone of Brisingamen" by Alan Gardner. I read them about 20 years ago and they beat any of Rowling's books.
The Wheel of Time is nice series but it was never finished since Robert Jordan has passed away.
A series I would recommend is Dune by Frank Herbert. Although it is best enjoyed in sequence, each book has a proper ending so you won't be left frustrated waiting for the next book to come out. By the way, I only recommend the original series. The later series written by Frank's son seems to be popular according to the blurbs but I find them boring.
Books I would recommend are:
Tiger! Tiger! by Alfred Bester (SF)
Null A! by A.E. Van Vogt (SF)
Series I would recommend are:
The Sharpe series by Benard Cornwell (Historical)
The Amber series by Roger Zelazny (Fantasy)
The Southern Vamp series by Charlaine Harris (Fantasy)
The Hammer and The Cross by Harry Harrison (Historical Fantasy)
The Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison (Humorous SF)
The Drenai Series by David Gemmell (Fantasy)
The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher (Fantasy)
The Codex Alera by Jim Butcher (Fantasy)
Lovejoy series by Jonathan Gash (Humorous Crime)
The first 8 or 9 books of the Anita Blake series, after that our heroine turns into a whiny bitch.
For teens or kids - any books by Andre Norton or Diana Wynne Jones, the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin.
There are lots more books I'd like to recommend but can't recall them offhand at the moment.
i would recommend 'the good earth' by pearl. s. buck.it is amazing.

CrossFire by Andy Mcnab, the latest one in his Nick Stone novels. Very good.
I'm currently reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward... It's a mix between fantasy (vampires) and romance. I highly recommend this for ppl who like romance with some 'you know what' scenes. :D

Shoot! I forgot to even mention Mitch Alboum. He has fairly short stuff but it is really brilliant. Tuesdays with Morrie, Five People You Meet in Heaven and he's got another one that I haven't read yet, I saw that Oprah's Company made a movie of it though. Might check that out. Anyway, yea, really good.

Ooh Galer, I've been wanting to read Twilight for ages! My friends tell me it's good. I'm skeptical though - I'm a Harry Potter fan, and sadly a fault in our species is that we are afraid another book is gonna come along and knock us out of our bubble.
Seriously though, I recently read Memoirs of a Geisha and it's one of the best books I have ever read. It's very well written, and it is amazing how you feel like you are exploring the culture and experiencing this world so vividly as you read... I could not put it down! I recommend it to anyone looking for something not sci-fi/fantasy, but still VERY good! Give it a shot! :Content:
Robert Jordans - Wheel of Time series best fantasy books ever written imo
Harry Potter books
David Gemmells books too (many to list) great heroic fantasy
Trudi Canavans - Black Magician Trilogy
i've just read improbable from adam fawer. i liked it. then i've just begun to read empathy. that seems good, i recommend both.

Anyone read the phillip pullman books, His dark materails. There reli good and there making a film of the first one this year.
Yeah really like this series but tbh didn't really dig the film, terrible acting, mainly Lyra let it down for me! Love that name thou, if i ever have a baby girl, this is a top name!
I read "Next" by Michael Crichton - Good read, if you like neo-science fiction, all his books are neo-science so I really enjoy them. If you like murder and mystery then James Patterson is the man you want to read - he's also pretty good.
well I really loved middlesex and the virgin suicides but if yu guys like books check out this site its ging thru a few hard times at the mo but im sure it'll be back up soon

hi there,
i read quite alot. at least a couple books a month.
i've found that david gemmell is an excellent writer although he's no longer with us. Any of his books are well worth the reading.
As for others i've just found that matthew reilly is another good writer. His first book (I think) is Contest. A guy gets pulled into an interstellar contest where the rules are simple. around 7 enter only one leaves. the premise has probably been done before but the book is written so fast paced that it doesnt take long at all to get through it. his other books are just as fast. he has a way of engagin the reader with all the action and also put in alot of info but makes it easily disgestable. I'd recommend him to anyone.
trudi canavan with either series that she's done is worth the read as well as clive cussler. both write great books.

Big Jeffrey Deaver fan currently reading The Paper Doll
Have just read Iain M. Banks "Inversions", which while part of his SF "Culture" series, is only so if you are aware of the clues; otherwise it reads like a medieval adventure. Regardless of what genre it is, the writing is beautiful, reminds me a bit of Gene Wolfe's "Torturer" series.

I've just finished reading "Alexander the Great" by Arthur Weigall.
It's about Alexander - the world's greatest conqueror. In this book the author pays attention not only to Alexander kingship and conquers, he also describes the times before Alexander was born, the situation in his homeland Macedonia and the years when his father Philip II was king.
If you like historical books then you'll love this one. Great book!
I also love His Dark Materials, which are probably my favourites books right now. I'm currently reading Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and I'm finding it very gripping, and I recently finished Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, which I also thought was very good.

For me it would have to be the 'wheel oif time' series by Robert Jordan. He died part wayt through writing the final book, but they've found someone to finnish it off in his name, so that's what I'm waiting for.
My personal favourate would have to David Edding's Belgariad & Malorean books along with his elenium & tamuli books. Both series have seriouse re-readablity factor!!!!!!!!!

Just reading George RR Martin's ''A Song of Ice and Fire'' at the moment. One of the best reads ever, a true epic. Started the third book in the series ''A Storm of Swords'' and its just as good as its predecessors.
Harry Potter is a great series as well, as is His Dark Materials and Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit, The Silmarillion and Children of Hurin by Tolkien, arguably better than LOTR in my opinion.

I`ve just read the first five Discworld novels, absolutely love them. Also recommend Tad Williams Otherland Series, although I`ve only just read the first part City of golden shadow. It`s a great fantasy novel about VR and might be interesting to read for computer buffs. Although it took me a while to get into it I really liked it, and will start reading part 2 as soon as I`ve finished the lovely Wyrd sisters ;-)
And the last chapter of the Wheel of time finally comes out in September or October, it`s called The Gathering Storm. I sure hope it`s not a let down.........

just read "Imperium" from Robert Harris, it's sort of a fictive biography of Cicero
pretty good book, especially if you liked the show Rome
Currently reading "What Price Liberty?" by Ben Wilson, quite readable so far.
I just love Sherlock Holmes other than that not much particular book interests.
read Da vinci code and the other part the angels and demons. They were very entertaining.
Do read them if you haven't
A Couple of weeks ago I finished "A Brave New World" (it's correct like that, isn't it?) by Aldus Huxley.
Great book, at some points a bit weak, but great over all.
I love books, I read way too much :P At the moment I'm reading Wuthering Heights for the second time, and I still love it, would definitively recomend it. I guess it's not for everyone though.
Another book I really liked was The Shadow of the Wind. It's about books :D Sort of. It was beautiful.
A book that maybe not so many of the non Swedish/Norwegian speaking people have read is the Arn-triology. But it is so great, I love history, and it has a lot of it, as well as a really good plot. There may be a bit too many names and places to remember sometimes, but it's still amazing. That is one of the books that I HAVE to have with me everytime I move.
And I can't recomend books without mentioning Lord of the Rings of course, probably been done already, but still, if anyone hasn't read them, go do it!

Over The past few months I have been reading David Baldacci's Camel Club series, I can recommend.
Just read the new Terry Goodkind book 'law of Nines'
The fact they are advertising it as a thriller and saying that people who have not read his previous books can pick it up and enjoy it all the same is a bit of a lie as there are so many references and little 'in-joke' type things that if you don't spot them you'd be missing loads of the good bits.
It was a good book, but a bit lazy and formulaic and predictable. Although I don't know if I just think this because I know the Sword of Truth series so well.

Otherland is great. I've begun A song of Ice & Fire and finished the first book A game of thrones. I'm reading the second book A clash of kings now. I can really recommend this series to every one who loves classic fantasy.
Already have these on my wishlist at amazon (with approx. 100 other books)........ and Memory, Sorrow and Thorn........aaah, so many books, so little time  (with all the stuff I dl here and watch :nowink:)

For those og you who understand Norwegian: My favorite series of books have to be Skogland (Forestland) written by a Norwegian author by the name of Thore Hansen. It's really awsome in the way it can easily be transfered into our community or just be read as fantasy books. It suits both kids, young adults and adults since there are some hidden meanings you discover as you mature.
Read all of the (published) Twilight books before the movie came, love them. And have read every Eragon books except for the last one. Love those two. Those are pretty much the only books I can read more then once without getting bored

Nice to know.
Kinda senseless to the conversation though.
Last book I read was one of the Stargate books. Really not bad.
I love to read some really good books which capture me for some days. The last really good ones I have read were the novels written by David Baldacci (almost all of them are really good) and I enjoyed reading Tom Clancy's: The sum of all fears. (the book is better then the movie!).

I'm not a huge Twilight fan, but a friend of mine gave me "The Twi****e Saga: New Moan" and it's basically a book making fun of Twilight. It's hilarious and lots of adult content. I'm enjoying it so much more than she did, but then again she read the original books.
yeah i read warcraft wars of the ancients:P

The last book I read recently was Heat Wave by "Richard Castle". I was excited that they actually made a real book like he was writing on the show, because I love Castle.
I'm reading 'Call of the Weird' by Louis Theroux, it's a follow-up on some of the people he's met during filming of his documentaries. I really love his work!

I'm just finishing with one of the Stargate books right now.
Good book. Interesting topic and the people were actually in character. ;)
Recently I've read "The Big show" by pierre clostermann
It's his memmories from the time where he was pilot in the royal airforce
during the WWII.
If you like action you will be served, I don't know how but the author manage to make you believe you're in the plane while you're reading, it's very an intense book.
If you love history and the WWII then this book is definitively worthwhile

I would definitely like to read that one.
I'm an English major so pretty much all I do is read. I just finished reading the play "The Country Wife" by William Wycherley for a course that I'm taking. For non-educational reading, I'm about 200 pages into The Return: Nightfall from the Vampire Diaries series of novels.

I like to read Arther C. Clarke for science fictions. He has made it quite clear over the years that he discounts nothing. He knows that the possibility exists for there to be extraterrestrial life, he just hasn't been lucky enough to have seen any evidence. It a wise, scientific stance. I think he would be delighted to find such evidence.

Anyone read the phillip pullman books, His dark materails. There reli good and there making a film of the first one this year.
I read it but not completed yet if any read this then please tell something about this due to hectic schedule I have not much time and for that I appreciate in advance.
I'm thinking of starting 'Eat Pray and Love' before the movie is released in September (where I live). It's been so hard these days to find a good book, a book with which we can really 'connect'.. as hard as to find a nice boyfriend these days haha. I strongly advise 'Norwegian Wood' by murakami. The book is awesome ! I was obsessed for days.. couldnt leave it.
I would recommend all books from Christopher Moore, he`s a hillarious genius!!!!
And also allways worth reading: Matt Ruff! love this guy :-)
I enjoy reading Ted Dekker. He may be a Christian author, but I don't find him preachy.

Hmm... while not an incredibly great book, Kazuo Ishiguros Remains of the Day was a pretty good read.Havent had much time for casual reading lately.
I'm not a big reader but Anthony Horowitz in the Alex Rider series is amazing
one of the most addictive and brilliant series that I recently discover is the Morganville series by Rachel Caine. It still being written so there not ending yet. If you had like Twilights you will love it. I actually read a load of other series recently but not finished them yet. I am currently reading P.C. Cast Partholon series, still not finish it yet but its brill so far.
