Just preordered it yesterday, and soooo looking forward to it. I`m just sad it`s gonna be the last one :( If you guys like fantasy and especially magicians you should read The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, wonderful books and Bartimaeus (a djinni) is hilarious ;D

Same here! I agree that it's going to be very bittersweet reading it. This series is my favorite, and it's so weird to think that there's only one left and that it's coming out this year! Now I'm going to have to find a new obsession! ;)

I've read the first 2, awesome books ;D Can't wait for the last Potter installment. I;m pretty sure both Harry and Voldemort will die, because I think Harry is a horcrux (but he doesn't know it) so to kill Voldemort he himself must die. Well that's my theory anyway ;D
Thats very!!! Interestin, I think u might be right! That would be an awesome end to teh book!

Yep, after I read the 6th book I thought about how it could all end (sad I know lol) and came up with a few theories but that one makes the best sense. AND it'll be the only way that J.K.R wont have to write another book, cos if harry dies then its definitely the end of the saga right?
i have to say i'm not a huge Harry Potter fan. i have read the first 3 books (i think)...
but this one sounds like it will close everything which will be good
athar775
03-02-2007, 10:08
Lol, you've only read the first 3? Well you can't read the last one unless you've read the other 6! Trust me, its a great series ;D
I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, I can't wait until the 21st July.
I'll be there in the queue (hopefully the front like for the last book!) camping outside WHSmiths!
Anyone else got any theories for the last book?
I assume that Voldermort and Harry will be the two characters to die, but I really hope Harry doesn't :(
im looking forward to the last book. going to be exciting. if anyone remembers the horocrux, there is a rumor that harry is one of them.

I'm really excited to see this coming out in July. Finally -- all seven years will be out and available. I'm hoping that she'll continue to write and come up with new stuff. ;D
athar775
07-02-2007, 11:25
Yep, she will continue writing but nothing to do with Harry Potter or magic. I think she said something about books aimed at older people (as opposed to kids) so will just have to wait and see ;D
It'll be released on my b-day :o
Thanks for the info ;)
Cool :)
Happy Birthday for then!
I want it never to end!!! :'( I am the hugest HP fan, and I can't believe everything will end this July! I wish Jo had waited another year, to give us more time for conventions, discussions, fanfiction, speculation, podcasts... :'( :'( It's very hard for me to actually be excited.
I'v read the first four but never really got far in the 5th and didnt buy the 6th
I'v read the first four but never really got far in the 5th and didnt buy the 6th
wow how could you do that, once i started i couldn't stop!
i hate to be a buzzkill but in the interview on richard and judy last july or september (bad memory) when a kid asked which 3 or 5 characters would you invite to a dinner party..j.k said of course harry, ron and hermione..then she hesitated and said i was about to say another name but i don't know if i can invite people who are dead or not..so im hoping and thinking harry wont die..but if he does, its a way to kill off the merchandising as she said..LOL.. but if harry was a horcrux, then maybe voldemort accidentally tried to kill harry but put a part of himself in him (im thinking its his scar) as he has powers that voldemort had transferred to him on the night of his attempted murder..as the sorting hat only went to put him in slytherin cause he saw the powers that Lord V had put into him.. maybe thats why he didn't want to kill harry in book 6 (or try anyways), but had dumbledore killed b4 he could realise harry was a horcrux!?!?..also ive recently bought the first 6 in the hardback set from amazon, and read the first one in 4 days..im just starting number 2 now and hope to read them all before i get the 7th one, its ages away tho!!:(
Hmm i think Harry being a horcrux is unlikey i never been a fan of this idea as it would be a bad way to end. I hope harry doesn't die but it seems like it could happen. :'(
I'm glad this book is coming out so soon! :)
It seemed a bit like Pirates Of The Carribean 2 though, with all the unclosed plot threads but from what I've read it looks like the book will finish up all the plot threads from the last book and the others. ;D
- Forgot to add. I heard she was going to do a big "magical encyclopedia" after the last book. I wonder If she will still do it. :-\

i love all the harry potter films althogh i havnt read the books. r the books better than the film,s?
I'm just thinking about the whole "Harry is the last Horcrux" theory, and I was just thinking back to the 6th book where Harry questions whether or not Nagini could be a horcrux, and Dumbledore tells him its much harder to make something with a brain a horcrux because it can think for itself etc. So I think it will have been a bad move for Voldermort to make Harry a horcrux, but then again there's been a lot of evidence in favour of Harry being a hocrux so it's rather hard to decide!
Anyone else got any thoughts on the topic? :)

He has to die for the saga to end! If he lives then there'll always be scope for her to carry on writing, ie after he has left hogwarts he may become an Auror or a professional quidditch player (unlikely I know, but still a posibility). My point being, theres still so much she can write after the 7th book...unless Harry dies. It's the ONLY way to end it, cos then what would you called the 8th book? The adventures of Ronald Weasley? lol
So I think it will have been a bad move for Voldermort to make Harry a horcrux, but then again there's been a lot of evidence in favour of Harry being a hocrux so it's rather hard to decide!
Throughout the books its been quoted "Voldemort put a part of himself in Harry"(unintentionally, of course). Hence he can speak parseltongue, without ever actually learning, and could also see Voldemorts thoughts for a while. So it's highly likely that he may have become a horcux without voldemort meaning to, the night he tried to kill him. That makes sense right? I think id better stop there :-\ Anyone else agree?
The best books I've ever read :)
You should try them sometime kikiscott

hehehehehe.........
I cant wait. If I read one chapter a day, starting last week, I will finish just in time for book 7. Its a shame she didn't release it on 07/07/07 though
If you guys like fantasy and especially magicians you should read The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, wonderful books and Bartimaeus (a djinni) is hilarious ;D
I read the first in the trilogy (The Amulet of Samarkand) and thought it was a great book, but sadly I never got round to purchasing the sequels. I am however and avid Harry Potter fan and have read all the books so far. I cant wait until the final book is released :)

i hope she made the book the longest out of the series... i was disappointed with the length of the last one...
True, but Order of the Phoenix was ridiculously long, and not enough really happened to justify it.
It'll be good to find out whats going to happen. I bet she'll do something weird just to throw everyone.
My personal theory is that there's some form of world of the dead, and Harry has to visit it to talk to Sirius (hence what the mirror is for) and Dumbledore, as Harry can't defeat Voldemort himself, but Dumbledore probably can (as shown at the end of Order of the Phoenix). Ron and Hermione will probably get together, and possibly die in some tragic way.
Also, she said that she didn't want to write any more than 7, and that's why she was stopping.
Or possibly I just don't want Harry to die.
2 things i think will happen. I think Snape will sacrifice himself trying to save Harry. I think Voldermort will kill Harry but when Harry dies due to the connection they both have Voldermort dies as well.
After rereading the half blood prince, i have finally realized why Dumbledore never wanted to give Snape the DADA job, its because it is cursed and he knew that Snape would then only remin at the school for 1 year.

Thats a very neat and interesting theory. It will make for one hell of a plot. I also think Harry will die, but only because thats the only way JKR can really finish the series.
I also feel that Neville will finally get a big part to play in this one.

I really like this theory, some good ideas you've got here :)

Does anyone think she might kill Harry in the end? That would make sure that no one rips off her stuff and writes sequels down the road.
This whole is Harry a horcrux thing just seems so stupid. If he is and has to die then it just seems like such a predictable move and Harry Potter books aren't really like that (the only way it would be worth it is if it's done well, which J.K is probably capable of), it'd just ruin it but on the other hand it seems like such a logical move.
I'd like to see it end in a way that nobody would really think of but ends the series well.
I don't think she'll do it, as you said because everyone has thought of it.
I think It'll be something really odd.

I'm really excited for the 7th book to come out but it's kind of bittersweet because it will be the last book.
Very good news! HP is a classic story !
They thought it might just have been in a little bad taste to release on the 7th of July. She's English, and so Bloomsbury (who publish it here, and therefore control the worldwide release dates) decided that it might be in bad taste to release it on the anniversary of 7/7 (http://"http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/london_bombings/bombs_content_index.shtml")
(It'd be the same thing as showing the last episode of Lost, with lots of flashbacks of the first episode and the island blowing up on 9/11 in the U.S)
I'll definitely buy this book, I can't wait for the book and the movie
i am well going to go to my local waterstones midnight launch for hp7. then i shall stay up all night and read it ASAP... cannae wait

thanks for the low down, i hope its a good ending to such fantastic books
that reminds me i got a lot of "work" to do..need to go thru all the books again b4 i read the deathly hallows..and gotta catch the movies again b4 the new one is out..i love my work :)
I can't wait for the final book, though I feel a mix of excitement and concern. I can't wait to find out what happens, I just hope the ending does the whole series of books proud! I find it so frustrating when books don't have a proper ending, and there are endless possabilities for the characters. I hope all the plot lines are tied up neatly. I'm sure I have nothing to worry about as JK Rowling is an excellent author, so I'll let the excitement win for now! :D
I know its sad but love the Harry Potter.. better than Eastenders anyday! (uk will know) lol

lol yeah, i'm waiting for Deathly Hallows as well, should be a great finish to the series. Hope it won't just be a simple ending like both Voldemort and Harry dying, or even Harry surviving would be a bit of a letdown. Kill him!!

I think the only justifiable way to end the book is with a significant death, perhaps snape saving harry's life and revealing that he is Harry's father

JKRowling.com has recently been updated with news that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final book in the series, will be released on July 21st, 2007, one week after the fifth movie hits theaters.
lol what a gay name...seriously "deathly hallows" is deathly even a word?
I wonder if she will really stop the books after this one. I think it is just a publicity stunt to get people to buy more books, but I guess time will tell. :)

Is it just me or do they always line up the release of the new books with the release of the movies? What's going to happen when the next movie comes out? No more Harry Potter books after this one!! ???
I have enjoyed the movies thoroughly and I know I'll get heat for saying I've yet to read a single book of the series, but hey, you can't blame me, I have the first book, it's right there on my table, now if I could just get myself to read it...

The cool thing not only does it come out a week after the movie but it is said that the publisher is going to print 12 million copies of the last book in the US to break the record for the last book. That's awesome.

cant wait, that is a huge number of books
I'd like to read about Harry when he goes out into the great wide world , maybe if he's killed off in this seventh book someone else will write about him and do a Dallas making out it was only a dream , perhaps I'm dreaming ::)
I definately think Harry will die at the end of this book, i think thats the best way to end the series. If he doesn't die then there will always be the question of what happened next and i don't see JK Rowling leaving this open. But then again, thats just what i think.... :)
Yes its the ned finito. Yes Harry will die and shes said a few more will die too i think 3 characthers shes said. I think its Harry. malfoy and snape.

I can't wait for this to come out, but I think it'll be sad to end the series :(
I thought Harry being a Horcrux was a given!?!
As long as Snape doesn't die I'll be happy. I just hope that he does actually turn out to be good. I was thinking maybe Dumbledore and Snape had a secret deal hence the killing etc. *fingers crossed*
I'm quite disappointed by the last book, I think all the love story are wasting the principal story, but I still look forward the other book (and it's a pity that Dumbledore died, I cried a lot!)
But thats is the part of growing up i guess.
No, Harry isn't definitely a Horcrux. I, personally don't think its a good idea, partly because everyone is saying that that's what'll happen, and partly because it wouldn't make sense.
Sure, thematically, having Harry as the final horcrux might be cool an epic, but it'd be a bit of an oversight on Voldemort's part. I mean, he tried to kill Harry because of the prophecy.
`The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches. born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies . and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not . and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives . the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies .'
As Snape only overheard the first part of the prophecy, (it can be inferred from what Dumbledore says that he is discovered right before Sybil Trelawny says "and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal") Voldemort knows only that someone with the power to defy him will be born at the end of July. Dumbledore further hypothesises that Voldemort goes after Harry because he sees him as a threat. As Rowling generally uses Dumbledore as a character to explain the truth of the wizarding world, this is likely at least mostly true. Now why on earth would Voldemort entrust the final part of his soul to Harry if he thought that he had the power to defy him? It might make some little sense if he knew more of the prophecy; "neither can live whilst the other survives" however Snape does not hear this part, and so it is unknown even from Lord Voldemort.
It must also be remembered that Quirrel (possessed by Voldemort), Riddle, Barty Crouch Junior, Voldemort himself, Lucius Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange and many other of Voldemort's followers have attempted to kill Harry. Why on earth would they do this if Harry was a horcrux (if Voldemort had never attempted to kill him, then possibly he could just have not told his Death eaters, however Voldemort himself fires an Avada Kedavra curse at Harry in the graveyard in "Goblet of Fire", and surely this would be a rather suicidal move.
Lastly, look at the words of the prophecy. Rowling has been known to use technicalities of phrases to hide facts before. Firstly, one must die at the hand of the other. Therefore one of them will have to kill the other. If Harry is a horcrux then either Voldemort would kill himself, or Harry would kill himself, thus defying the prophecy (though Dumbledore says that the prophecy is made true by actions, and is not necessarily a true picture of the future).
On a last point, not completely related, the prophecy says that "neither can live whilst the other survives". Could this mean that Voldemort is, in his own way, dead, and in fact needs Harry to die only to regain life, or does it merely mean that their lives will be consumed by hunting each other down until they die?
Anyway, I think that's enough incredibly sad babble for now.
Edit: Oh, and @ iced_tea:

Yeah, if loads of the key parts of it get out, it will suck!
it should be left a suprise..lol.
Yeah. I'm just going to avoid all news to do with Harry Potter after this. I have everything I need to know, the release date, the name and the cover art. I'm now going to ignore all else.
Btw, has anyone noticed what Amazon has put as the "perfect partner" for the new Harry Potter book? Not one of the old Harry Potter books, not even a Philip Pullman/Eoin Colfer book. No. James Bond.
but you can bet that some idiot will send a chain mail to ppl telling them who dies, just to annoy ppl! either that or they'll go and put it on the news! which would suck! i think all we'll have to do is go out on the day buy the book, call in sick to work and read it w/in 10hrs!
