on the radio in Birmingham they were announcing which schools were open rather than closed because the snow literally shut everything down

I'm from Birmingham but I live on the south coast for uni, my parents were snowed in! It's times like these I wish I was still at school.

why in england when its snows like 10cm or whatever.. the full nation comes to a standstill ? eg. schools are closed etc. in scotland i can remember one time when we had over 6feet of snow and well...we never got the day off school....not all of it anyway

awww bless you i do agree with that though. my nan was even saying how daft it was to stop everything because of a lil snow.

If it helps I didn't get the day off from college, and there's a very large, reasonably and (that day) icy hill in between me and it.
