What It All Means - Release Guide
Want to know what HDTV or PDTV means? You have come to the right place as this guide will help you understand the tags and releases that are in use on download links and some others that are used in other ways which have also been included in the guide.
Take this download link of One Tree Hill, what do you see? If you see just random letters and numbers your not alone. Please take a look at the image below to understand it a little more.

HDTV (High Definition Televison):
Digital recording from a source stream at either 1080i or 720p at a bitrate from 19,39mbps or higher.
720p
Digital recording from a source stream of 720p at original resolution or 1080i/p downsized to 720p, contained within a MKV file. Resolution: 1280x720. Progressive. Audio is AC-3.
PDTV (Pure Digital Television):
Other resolution digital recordings from source streams at a bitrate of 10+mbps or higher.
It is a label given to files that were ripped directly from a purely digital source, having less resolution than HDTV.
SDTV (Standard Digital Television):
Digital recording or capture from a source stream at any resolution with bitrate under 10mbps.
TVRip (Analogue TV Rip):
Recorded from analog TV, lowest quality of all TV rips.
DSR (Digital Stream Rip):
Digital stream rip is a rip that is captured from a digital source stream, such as a HDTV or DVB transmission.
DSR (Digital Satellite Rip):
Recorded from Digital Satellite, quality is similar to PDTV.
PROPER:
Due to scene rules, whoever releases a certain release the first, has won that race.
If there is something "wrong" with the release (poor quality, out-of-sync, audio errors etc.) and another group has a better/correct version, it can release it and add PROPER to the release title to avoid being nuked.
However, the source must be the same as the original release.
PROPER is the most subjective tag in the scene, and a lot of people will generally argue whether the PROPER is better than the original release. The reason for the PROPER should always be included in the NFO.
Repack:
If a group releases a bad rip, they will release a Repack which will fix the problems. It's similar to PROPER but then done by the same group.
NUKED:
A film can be nuked for various reasons. If the release has something extremely wrong with it (no soundtrack for 20mins etc) then a global nuke will occur, and people trading it across sites will lose their credits.
Nuked films can still reach other sources such as p2p/usenet, but its a good idea to check why it was nuked first in case. If a group realise there is something wrong, they can request a nuke.
NUKE REASONS:
- Out-of-sync:
if audio and video are not in sync.
- BAD A/R: bad aspect ratio, ie people appear too fat/thin
- BAD IVTC: bad inverse telecine. process of converting framerates was incorrect.
- INTERLACED: black lines on movement as the field order is incorrect.
See PROPER for more information.
DUPE:
Dupe is quite simply, if something exists already, then theres no reason for it to exist again without proper reason.
